Your file never leaves your device. Processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Location and camera metadata (EXIF) are removed from the result.

Each color channel is rounded onto those steps. Width and height stay the same. PNG keeps transparency. JPG fills empty pixels with white. Camera location is not copied.

How to posterize an image

1. Drop a photo you already have. Audio and video are refused here. 2. Leave 4 levels, or pick 2 or 8. 3. Leave PNG, or pick JPG, then press “Posterize image”.

GustKit rounds each red, green and blue value onto those steps. 2 levels is the strongest poster. 8 levels keeps more of the original. The alpha stays in a PNG. A JPG has no alpha, so a clear pixel is filled white before the levels are applied.

Fewer colors, same size

Duotone maps brightness onto two chosen colors. Grayscale removes color and keeps the shades. Pixelate averages blocks. This page keeps the pixel grid and cuts the number of steps in each channel. Threshold image turns the whole photo black and white at one cutoff.

The photo stays in this tab

The browser canvas does the work. GustKit does not fetch a picture from a link. Camera location is not copied into the download. Close the tab and the file is gone.

How to check the poster before you post the photo

1. Open the original and the download at the same zoom. 2. A smooth sky should show flat bands. 3. If a logo lost its clear background, run again and save PNG.

Threshold image keeps only black and white. Duotone maps brightness onto two colors. This page cuts each color channel into a few steps. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

The download looks flatter and the size did not change. Did it work?

Yes. Posterize changes the colors, not the width or the height. 2 levels is flatter than 8.

Why is the file a PNG?

PNG is the default so a transparent pixel stays transparent. Pick JPG when you need a smaller photo and a white fill is fine.

Can I posterize a photo and also crop it in one step?

No. Posterize it first, or crop it first, then open the other page on the download.

Is the photo uploaded?

No. The canvas runs in this tab.

The sky turned into bands and the size did not change. Did it work?

Yes. 4 levels rounds each channel onto four steps. Width and height stay the same.

Can I posterize a photo and also make it grayscale in one step?

No. Posterize it first, or make it grayscale first, then open the other page on the download.
