Convert HEIC to PNG without uploading

Drop HEIC or HEIF photos from an iPhone and download PNG. This page uses the same decoder as HEIC to JPG, with the output locked to PNG.

  1. Choose file
  2. Set options
  3. Get result

Your file never leaves your device. Processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Location and camera metadata (EXIF) are removed from the result.

This page only accepts HEIC and saves PNG.

How to convert HEIC to PNG

1. Drop one or more .heic or .heif files. JPG and PNG are refused here. 2. Press “Convert to PNG”. 3. Download each PNG, or a ZIP when you converted several.

The first HEIC loads a small decoder (libheif) into this tab. Later files reuse it. The photo is decoded here and drawn to a canvas, then saved as PNG.

When PNG is the right HEIC output

Pick PNG when you will edit the photo again, when a tool rejects both HEIC and JPG, or when you do not want another round of JPEG compression. The file is often larger than a JPG of the same picture. For a photo to send in chat, HEIC to JPG is usually the smaller choice.

Orientation and what is left out

The decoder applies the iPhone orientation, so a portrait photo stays portrait. Location and camera metadata are not copied into the PNG. Live Photo motion is a separate video and is not included. Only the still image is converted.

Frequently asked questions

Will PNG make the photo sharper?

No. It stores the pixels the HEIC already had, without compressing them again as JPEG. It does not invent detail.

Why is the PNG bigger than I expected?

PNG is lossless. A phone photo that was compact as HEIC often grows when every pixel is stored this way.

Does it work on Windows?

Yes, in a current browser. The decoder downloads the first time you convert a HEIC file.

Is the HEIC uploaded?

No. Decoding and saving happen in this tab.
