Remove EXIF and other metadata from a photo

Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP and download a new picture. The pixels are saved again in this browser, so camera location and the other EXIF fields are left behind.

  1. Choose file
  2. Set options
  3. Get result

Your file never leaves your device. Processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Location and camera metadata (EXIF) are removed from the result.

The picture is saved again, so camera location and other EXIF fields are left out. A GIF keeps only the first frame.

Transparent areas become white in JPG.

How to remove metadata

1. Drop one or more photos. 2. Leave the format on “Same as original”, or pick JPG, PNG or WebP. 3. Press “Remove metadata” and download.

Open the download in a viewer that shows info. The GPS point and the camera name should be gone. The picture itself stays.

Why saving again is enough

GustKit decodes the photo, including the rotation stored in EXIF, and paints it on a canvas. The new file is only pixels. A canvas JPEG or PNG does not carry the original metadata container.

What still remains

Someone can still recognize a face or a place in the picture. This page does not blur a person. Use Blur face for that. A GIF keeps only the first frame. A very compressed JPG can look a little softer because it is a new JPEG.

How to confirm the location is gone

1. Download the picture. 2. Open the file info on your phone or computer and look for GPS, camera and the date the shutter fired. 3. If a field is still there, you opened the original. Use the download.

The new file is a fresh save. JPG at high quality stays close to the photo. PNG keeps a clear background. A GIF becomes a still of the first frame when you leave the format on automatic, because GIF is not a photo format this page writes.

Frequently asked questions

Does this remove the GPS location?

Yes. The location lives in EXIF, and the new file does not copy EXIF.

Will a sideways phone photo stay sideways?

No. The browser applies the EXIF rotation while it reads the file, so the download is already upright and no longer needs that tag.

Can I keep a transparent PNG transparent?

Yes. Choose PNG, or leave “Same as original” when the file is already PNG. JPG paints clear pixels white.

Is the photo uploaded?

No. It is rewritten in this tab.

Does this hide a face?

No. It only drops the hidden file info. Cover a face with Blur face if the picture itself shows someone.

Will the file get smaller?

Sometimes, especially a huge JPG. That is a side effect of saving again, not the goal. Compress image is the page for a size limit.
