How to convert an image to text

1. Drop an image above, paste one with Ctrl+V, or take a photo on your phone. 2. Choose the language of the text (you can combine several). 3. Press “Extract text”, then copy it or download a .txt file.

Tips for accurate OCR

Screenshots give near-perfect results. For photos, shoot straight on, in good light, with the text filling most of the frame. Choosing the right language matters: it lets the engine recognise accents like ç, ñ and ã.

The first time you use a language, its recognition data (about 2–4 MB) is downloaded once and cached by your browser.

Limitations

Handwriting, very stylised fonts and tiny text in low-resolution photos are hard for any OCR engine. Automatic language detection is not available; pick the language, or use the combined English + Portuguese + Spanish option.

Frequently asked questions

Is this OCR free?

Yes, free and without sign-up. It uses the open-source Tesseract engine compiled to WebAssembly.

Can I extract text from a PDF?

Convert the PDF page to an image first with our PDF to JPG tool, then drop that image here. PDFs with selectable text don't need OCR at all.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Recognition runs inside your browser; only the language data is downloaded from a public CDN.
