How to strip silence
1. Drop one audio file you already have. Video and pictures are refused here. 2. Leave Start and end, or pick Start only or End only. 3. Leave -50 dB for a quiet room. Use -40 dB or -30 dB when the noise floor is louder and the quiet parts are still being kept. 4. Press “Strip silence” and play the download from the first second.
GustKit runs FFmpeg silenceremove in this tab and re-encodes the file. WAV stays WAV, MP3 stays MP3. A pause in the middle of a sentence stays. Only the quiet stretch at the edges you picked is removed. Keep the original until a word still starts where you expect.
Stripping silence is not the same as adding it
Add silence inserts empty time and makes the file longer. Trim audio cuts at a clock time you type. This page listens for a level below the threshold and drops that stretch from the start, the end, or both. Change volume makes the whole recording louder and does not shorten it.
The audio stays in this tab
The first visit downloads FFmpeg. Later visits reuse the browser cache. A file longer than the limit on the page is refused, because the whole file is re-encoded here. GustKit does not fetch audio from a link.
How to hear the shorter file before you replace the original
1. Play the download from the first second. If you stripped the start, a word should arrive sooner than it did in the original. 2. Jump near the end and check that the tail you wanted gone is gone. 3. Keep the original until a name still lands where you expect.
Add silence does the opposite and makes the file longer. Trim audio cuts at a time you type and does not listen for a level. The file type does not change. Nothing is uploaded.
